It was great to see Rory Mcilroy finally get his first win here at the
Dubai Desert Classic. Make no mistake, this kid is scary good. And
there will be many more victories in the kids future. It may sound
crazy, but I think not winning too early will help Rory in the long
run. Rory came very close to winning in Switzerland last year, and to
be honest, he let the victory get away. Another chance came and went
with a playoff loss at the UBS Hong Kong Open. I saw his caddie, JP,
here at the Els Club at the end of last year and he said he felt Rory
was close, and just needed to go out and get the job done. Some of the
guys over at the Montgomerie know Rory well and spent some time with
him before the start of the Desert Swing. Rumor has it Rory told his
mates to put money on him winning either Abu Dhabi, Qatar, or the
Classic! So you know this kid has loads of confidence in his abilities
on the course. He reminds me of Sergio Garcia when he burst on the
scene in the late 90's. I love how Rory plays with zero fear. He
takes very little time to hit his shots, meaning he sees the shot, then
stands up and hits it. We need more players like Rory and Anthony Kim,
who play fast, have loads of confidence and talent, and who win
tournaments. I see lots of young players walk around like they own the
place, but very few, if any, can back it up. I expect Rory to win
again this year and become a serious force in the game.
